Treatment overview
Chin augmentation — or mentoplasty — enhances the projection and shape of the chin to bring facial features into harmonious proportion. Dr. Asheesh Dhingra offers chin augmentation at Olive Skin & Aesthetics using implants or structural fat grafting, depending on the patient’s anatomy and goals.
A well-defined chin balances the nose and neck profile, strengthens the jawline, and can dramatically improve overall facial aesthetics. The procedure is often one of the most transformative yet understated enhancements available.
Who is a Good Candidate?
- Individuals with a recessed or weak chin profile
- Patients seeking improved facial balance relative to their nose or forehead
- Adults with a fully developed skeletal structure (typically 18+)
- Those desiring a stronger jawline contour
- Non-smokers in good general health with realistic expectations
The Procedure
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia and takes approximately 45–60 minutes. An incision is placed either inside the mouth or beneath the chin in a natural crease.
Dr. Dhingra selects a solid silicone implant sized precisely to the patient’s anatomy, securing it in a sub-periosteal pocket for stability. Alternatively, structural fat grafting may be used for patients preferring an autologous approach.
Recovery Timeline
- Day 1–2: Moderate swelling and tightness around the chin; cold compresses and soft diet advised.
- Week 1: External dressing removed; most patients return to desk-based work.
- Week 2–3: Bruising and majority of swelling resolved; light exercise may resume.
- Month 1–2: Implant settles into final position; sensation normalises.
- Month 3: Final contour fully visible; strenuous activities unrestricted.

Frequently asked questions
Can chin augmentation be combined with rhinoplasty?
Yes. Combining the two is common and allows Dr. Dhingra to optimise overall facial profile balance in a single surgical session.
Will the implant feel natural?
Once healed, a properly placed silicone chin implant feels virtually indistinguishable from natural bone to both the patient and others.
Is there a risk of implant shifting?
Modern implants secured in a sub-periosteal pocket have an extremely low displacement rate. Dr. Dhingra ensures precise pocket creation for stability.
How long does a chin implant last?
Chin implants are considered permanent. They do not need to be replaced unless the patient desires a size change.
